The Alexir Partnership has recently added to its head count and have taken on two young apprentices at their carton manufacturing site in Edenbridge, Kent. Alexir is a pioneering Employee-Owned Business (EOT) who works closely with its customers to help solve their packaging and supply chain challenges with innovative eye-catching design and speed to market solutions.
The two successful candidates, Amy Page and Sam Sharp, are from the local area and both were looking for an opportunity to break into the creative packaging industry. Their backgrounds followed a similar trajectory in food retail with each of them also having a strong interest in design. Amy has been taken on by Alexir Creative (the design packaging arm of the Partnership) in their constructional design studio and will also be studying for an Engineering Operative level 2 at the nearby Easy Surrey College for one day a week.
Amy is hoping to achieve the highest grade in her Engineering qualification and says:
“I have loved the experience so far, being able to learn on the job with my mentor who has been in the Packaging industry for a long time. I get to learn her tips and tricks which are invaluable.”
Meanwhile Sam was selected by Alexir Digital following a restructure of the busy department. With qualifications in Graphic Design, he will naturally fit into a role which combines packaging artworks, pre-press and production. He will be completing a year-long Print Technician course run by the British Printing Industry Federation.
Sam is also learning on the job and already feels that he knows more around the different stages and processes involved in making a carton. He would like to see himself still in the Packaging industry in 5 years’ time, either working as a designer or in pre-press.
“We are delighted to take on two young applicants in an apprenticeship role in the Packaging industry. There are so many opportunities within our industry and we need to keep on injecting it with young people. Furthermore, being an EOT business means that our success is their success, so we wish them well in their chosen fields.”
